Carnival Cruise Line's Mardi Gras

Note that even after the makeovers, the ships still don't have all the bells and whistles of Carnival's truly new ships, such as Carnival Panorama. As noted above, Carnival's newest ships are bigger than its older ships, allowing for more attractions, restaurants and lounges. Two of the three ships — Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream — also have sushi eateries, while Carnival Breeze and Carnival Magic have Carnival's Caribbean-inspired watering hole, RedFrog Pub. Carnival Horizon, Carnival Panorama and Carnival Venezia also have teppanyaki restaurants, and all four ships have dedicated chef's tables located within their galleys. On Carnival Panorama and Carnival Horizon, Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse offers beer brewed on-site along with barbecue dishes designed by the Food Network's Guy Fieri. On Carnival Vista, there's a stand-alone brewery and a separate barbecue venue.

Unique Theme Nights You Shouldn’t Miss When on a Cruise Ship

The new-look vessel is part of the Sunshine class and from December 13, 2021, is sailing from the Long Beach Cruise Terminal in California. She’s the newest addition to the Carnival fleet and becomes the 27th ship. As of December 4, 2023, the newest new-build ship in the fleet is the Carnival Jubilee, the third Excel-class vessel in the fleet. The vessel took over from sister ship Carnival Celebration, which joined the fleet at the end of 2022. Carnival Firenze is also a recent addition to the fleet, but not completely new, as she was transferred from Costa Cruises in 2024.

Carnival Celebration – 2022

Seven of the line's 25 vessels measure less than 100,000 tons, which makes them almost midsize by today's cruise ship standards. On Carnival Magic, Deluxe Ocean View staterooms are a great choice for families who want to let the sun shine in as they sail. Rooms in this category feature great views, a full bathroom — plus a separate washroom — and while stateroom configurations vary, certain Deluxe Ocean View rooms have space to sleep up to five cruisers.

They also have a far broader array of suites than earlier Carnival vessels. Six of the 27 vessels Carnival will operate by the summer of 2024 measure less than 100,000 tons, which makes them almost mid-size by today's cruise ship standards. In 2019, Carnival Cruise Line gave the cruise ship a massive $200 million renovation and a name change to Carnival Sunrise. The vessel originally debuted in 1999 and was the second Destiny class ship.

Carnival once had a full complement of eight Fantasy Class ships before scrapping many due to cost-saving measures. Carnival Pride is second ship the popular Spirit Class and sister to Carnival Spirit, Carnival Legend and Carnival Miracle. Carnival Radiance is 101,509 GRTs and carries 2,984 passengers (based on two per cabin).

Other popular venues found on some Carnival ships include RedFrog Pub, which serves up Carnival's tasty housemade beers on tap, as well as plenty of other choices. Every Carnival ship has a casino, usually smack in the middle of the main entertainment deck. Carnival also uses its big theaters for lots of interactive shows that involve you, the passenger, getting a little silly. They include Lip Sync Battle Carnival — a shipboard adaptation of the Paramount Network TV series — and Hasbro, the Game Show. In general, the production shows aren't nearly as sophisticated — or as long — as what you'll find on Royal Caribbean or Norwegian ships.

Who sails Carnival Cruise Line

This caused competitors to call the vessel “Mardi Gras On The Rocks”. However, Founder Ted Arison and the Carnival Cruise Line brand he created has had the last laugh. The Carnival Cruise Line brand continued to grow and become what it is part of today in Carnival Corporation & plc. Carnival Corporation & plc is currently the largest cruise vacation company and operates over 87 cruise ships sailing under nine different brands.

Each group has its own age-appropriate activities ranging from face painting to pirate adventures. On many ships there are extensive dedicated spaces for the different groups. In short, there's a ton to do up top on Carnival vessels — and it's almost all available to every passenger on board the vessels at no extra charge (the roller coaster is the only exception). Also, there are always several music venues where you'll find live performers in the afternoons and evenings, including — on some ships — the Atrium Bar and a secondary hub area called Ocean Plaza. There's almost always a piano bar that's home to lively singalongs. When it comes to raucous, though, nothing on Carnival ships quite compares to the frequent karaoke nights on board.

The ships have relatively fewer amenities and venues than the newer and bigger Carnival ships. You won't find giant water parks on these vessels as you would on newer Carnival ships. You will find multiple slides and a spray park for the kids, though. In some recent years, Carnival has also deployed one of its Spirit-class ships across the Pacific to Australia — the most far-flung destination that it offers on its schedule. Still, you'll find a lot of the classic Carnival "fun ship" attractions on these vessels including water play areas with waterslides, miniature golf courses and adults-only Serenity deck-top retreat areas.

Carnival’s fan-favorite dining options and amenities, like Guy’s Burger Joint and WaterWorks, will be on board. Other upgraded amenities for Excel suite passengers include complimentary Bottomless Bubbles soda packages, room service and laundry service, sparkling wine upon arrival and upgraded bathroom toiletries. Each of the vessels in Carnival's recent Vista-class series, for instance, offer fewer than 75 suites.

These ships also have a lot of new features and amenities (including the first-ever roller coaster on a cruise ship — and, no, we're not making that up). Carnival Cruise Line currently has two more Excel class cruise ship on order. The ships will be 180,000 gross tons in size, the largest ever built by Carnival.

The biggest Carnival ships are Carnival Celebration (2022) and Carnival Jubilee, which will set sail for the line in late 2023. They're tied in terms of size, each coming in at 183,521 gross tons and carrying 5,374 passengers at capacity. Aside from the main pool, which is the hub of much of the line's fun activities, almost every Carnival cruise ship also has at least one waterslide, with several having multi-slide water parks. Additionally, several have a top-deck SportSquare that features a colorful collection of outdoor amusements, including Ping-Pong, billiards, foosball, mini-golf, Twister and a SkyCourse ropes course.

I've sailed the most on Carnival Elation since the ship sails from my hometown of Jacksonville. And because the ship is so small, it's easy to navigate, and I always end up making friends with the delightful crew onboard. Carnival Jubilee is the newest Excel-class ship in the fleet, sailing from Galveston, Texas. Adults also have their own space at the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat with swaying hammocks and a bar.

How Many Cruise Ships Does Carnival Cruise Line Have in Their Fleet?

It's likely that many of these dining issues are startup problems. The hotel director told me that it takes around six months for a new ship to be running like clockwork. So if you're on an early sailing, my advice is to dine early or request tables half an hour to an hour before you want to eat. If you like to try out different restaurants for dinner, choose the flexible dining option so you get earlier access to Chibang! We sampled a few of Celebration's specialty restaurants, and they also impressed.

The Newest Carnival Ships Sailing in 2023

Tracy Wilson Mourning, founder of the Honey Shine Mentoring Program became the ship’s godmother after construction was completed by Fincantieri in Italy. Carnival Sunrise is a completely new cruise ship and departed on her inaugural voyage in April 2019. The vessel is 101,509 gross tons with a guest capacity of 2,984 at double occupancy and 1,108 crew members. Carnival Venezia is 135,225 gross tons and has a guest capacity of 4,090 at double occupancy and across 2,045 staterooms. There are 15 passenger decks and a capacity of 1,424 crew members.

The décor transports you decades back through time, and this aesthetic is made of actual artifacts from Carnival ships of the past, mixed with design elements inspired by our earliest ships. This may just remind you to think about the fun history you’re creating throughout your vacation. Carnival Splendor is one of a kind when it comes to the different classes of ships from Carnival.

I'm not sure two people could stand next to each other without someone stepping into the shower, but the shower itself is roomy for a bathroom that small. I never banged my elbows or kicked open the door in an attempt to pick a bottle off the floor. Plus, it has an adjustable shower head with a removable wand and a shave bar in one corner — thoughtful touches.

Carnival Conquest is the first 110,000 gross tons cruise ship in the fleet, with a guest capacity of 2,980 at double occupancy and 1,150 crew members. There are 13 passenger decks and the vessel debuted in November 2022. The Carnival vessel is 88,500 gross tons and has a guest capacity of 2,124 at double occuapncy. Due to the design of this class ship, she is popular on cruises in Alaska and can transit the Panama Canal.

On Carnival Jubilee, options include inside cabins, outside rooms with windows, balcony accommodations and mini-suites, which are basically larger balcony cabins that have more closet space and can sleep up to four people. By day, panoramic windows offer port and ocean views to guests enjoying coffee and a snack from the JavaBlue Cafe across from Celebration Central's lower level. At night, video screens come down to serve as the high-tech animated backdrop for musical production shows featuring multiple aerialists and performers who dance in and out of passengers sitting closest to the stage. The Summer Landing zone on Carnival Celebration is the ship's living room, and my family found ourselves there often. My son was a big fan of the foosball and table shuffleboard, and my daughter loved the aft pool, with its loungers in the shallows.

MEET THE GODMOTHER

The 110,000-gross-ton ship is taking on three- and four-night Bahamas sailings from the port, joining three other Carnival ships. Built in 2003, the ship has a 2,980-guest passenger capacity based on double occupancy. We follow them through the pre-wedding party shenanigans, the prep and the ceremony, all set to popular songs like Bruno Mars' "Marry You" and, of course, Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband." Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a cruise ship almost entirely to yourself? I have, and for two days this week, I had the chance to experience it. I was one of just three non-employees on Carnival Cruise Line's new Carnival Jubilee, the third ship in the line's Excel Class, which gives a nod to some of the brand's original vessels.

In 2019 the Carnival Triumph received an incredible $200 million transformation that resulted in it being renamed and also reclassified as a Sunshine Class ship. Carnival Cruise Line has changed the names of three of its ships over the years. In order to enhance the ships, they have undergone a thorough dry dock renovation process where they are stripped down and updated with new features and décor. Even during construction, we knew where we were heading with the big plans for Carnival Jubilee!

In 1993, the ship left the Carnival fleet and had several name changes before being scrapped in 2003. These two new ships are scheduled to debut in 2027 and 2028 and will be powered by LNG. This will bring the number of Excel class ships in Carnival’s fleet to five. Carnival Pride is the second ship in the Spirit-class and was once the Carnival flagship when she made her debut in January 2002. The ship is 88,500 gross tons, the perfect size and design to transit the Panama Canal and sail in harsher continents.

It’s a fabulous way to enjoy delicious sandwiches made how you like, or even a just-got-grilled hot dog. Carnival Cruise Line is embarking on an ambitious expansion of its cutting-edge Excel-class fleet with the construction of a new, state-of-the-art cruise ship. In an exciting development, Carnival Corporation has unveiled plans for a new addition to its Carnival Cruise Line fleet. A fourth Excel class vessel has been ordered from the popular Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, and the vessel will be sister to Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and Carnival Jubilee.

Where they can choose dishes from the restaurant's menu or the always-available options from the main dining room menu. I've seen ships from other lines where the top-deck attractions take up so much space, the pools and lounging space get short shrift. Carnival Celebration manages to pack a lot into the Deck 18 playground, leaving plenty of real estate for the sun worshippers.

The Bolt roller coaster is a worthy thrill ride — my only complaint is that for $15, it could be a bit longer. The ropes course manages to be both scary and completely manageable; you might feel like you'll fall, but the obstacles are easier than they appear. Definitely try the short zip line and "walk the plank" over the edge of the ship. Aft of 820 Biscayne, Summer Landing makes a comeback on Carnival Celebration.

But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Mardi Gras® are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do. Get all the comfy details about Ocean View staterooms on Mardi Gras. Think about the fruity Hurricane cocktail or the stately Sazerac — for ages now, these hometown heroes have been ambassadors for New Orleans ‘credo of fun, flavor and just plain good times. So of course we’ll be serving up classics like these at The Brass Magnolia!
